To Do In Barra
Barra de Navidad (pop 7,000) and it's twin San Patricia de Melaque (pop 20,000) are both world renowned, yet quaint, beachside towns that are visited by Mexican, North American and European tourists during the winter. Mexican families from surrounding area come in the
summer.
Swimming at the sand bar of the Malecon (Boardwalk) is a popular activity, with big waves and
surfing/boogieboarding on the ocean side, and family swimming in the lazy waters of the lagoon. Local artisans selling their wares dot the cobblestone walkways of Barra de
Navidad. Shops are open most of the day and at night during high tourist seasons. Don't miss the
tanguis (local market days) on Wednesday in Melaque and Thursday in Barra de Navidad where you will find local arts and crafts.
Excellent mariscos (seafood) and mouth watering traditional Mexican cuisine are two other reasons to visit town. After dinner head out for cocktails and dancing. The nightlife in Barra de Navidad is remarkably vibrant for the size of the town, with many establishments open very late on weekends and during high seasons.
The world famous Piper
Lovers Blues Bar is the perfect place to relax over the
ocean with live music. Ask CocoCabaņas for recommendations on great eats and bars for any budget or agenda.
