Things to Do

Majahuas Biological Station is a secret paradise on the Costa Alegre – host to a concentration of animal and plant life that is hard to match anywhere else in the area, including endangered sea turtles. For those of you who have an interest in wildlife and conservation, this is the perfect tour – surrounded by palm trees, a lagoon on one side and sea on the other, few words can describe it’s beauty.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to see the working relationship between a small Mexican community and the amazing creatures that they are trying to protect – an opportunity to learn about the work and effort that goes into such a relationship and the history that has led up to it.

The ‘Roca Negra’ fisherman’s cooperative is the registered group in charge of Majahuas Biological Station and must rely on donations from government bodies and outsiders in order to maintain and develop their sea turtle conservation programme. There are continuous costs involved in running such a programme, including petrol and vehicle maintenance for patrolling the beach, materials for collecting and burying nests, maintaining water and power supplies to the camp, and much
more.

Aims: The aims of this tour are as follows:

To support the Majahuas Fisherman’s Cooperative in their management of Majahuas Biological Station in the following ways:

-
Providing financial donations towards the development of the sea turtle conservation programme and the fisherman’s cooperative.

-
Contributing towards the patrolling of the beach in order to protect sea turtle nests.

-
Training members of the Cooperative to be able to continue with the tours independently should the need or desire arise.

-
Provide consultant biologists when requested for support with the.development of the sea turtle conservation programme.

To offer a good value, educational and exciting tour for clients interested in the following:
