Serra Rancho Rough Rider Bike Ride: Challenging

This 5-8 hour challenging tour involves a three kilometer steady but gradual climb up a dirt road. There is an optional descent through a very rough and, in places, steep trail. Or you can return the way you came, either way, the return to sea level is down hill all the way! This mountain bike tour is for those who really want to leave civilization behind, do some fairly serious mountain biking and catch a glimpse of life on a remote Rancho in the sierra. After leaving Barra de Navidad, we ride along dirt roads through the plantations of mango and palm trees and the villages of Pinal Villa and Jaluco. After that civilization ends and we cycle through beautiful wooded and open pasture countryside. We ride for 3 km along highway 80 then cut off for the village of Lazaro Cardenas. We stop to explore this little town and then the real mountain biking begins and we climb 3km through a wooded area to the top of the hill. When we reach the top it's a pleasant bike ride through rolling countryside populated by cattle and goats to remote Ranchos El Organito and Escondido where the families who run them live without electricity or running water. From here we can also enjoy a spectacular view of the Barra de Navidad and Melaque area. We take a break here at the top before riding back down to sea level. There are no restaurants or stores but you can choose to add our Authentic Mexican Asado (Barbecue) Lunch with coolers of ice cold beer and soft drinks to your tour. When we're done resting at the top we ride back, either the way we came or, for experienced "trail riders" we can do some technical mountain biking down a rough, single-track trail to the bottom of the hill. When we reach the bottom we ride back to anywhere you like in Barra de Navidad, Melaque, San Patricio or Villa Obregon. Tour costs approximately 700 pesos per person.
